Quick Answer
One US fluid ounce (US fl oz) is about 29.57ml, so 16oz ≈ 473ml and 22oz ≈ 651ml; an imperial fluid ounce is about 28.41ml, and the fluid ounce for US nutrition labeling is defined as 30ml. The “500ml” and “700ml” cups common in bubble tea are trade names, and the actual brim capacity and how much drink a cup holds depend on the cup’s specifications. Recipe dosages should be based on how much drink and ice actually go in; for example, Tang Sugar’s fruit syrup dosage chart has separate figures for 500ml and 700ml cups.

Why a “500ml” Cup Isn’t Always 500ml
- A cup’s stated capacity is often its brim capacity; the actual drink leaves headspace.
- Ice takes up volume; less ice or no ice changes how much drink fits.
- Toppings (tapioca pearls, nata de coco and so on) take up volume too.
So define each cup size by its actual recipe: how many ml of tea, how many grams of syrup and how much ice.
Adjust Recipes by Cup Size
Using Tang Sugar’s fruit syrup dosage chart as an example:
| Cup | Tea | Syrup (full sweetness) |
|---|---|---|
| 500ml | 150ml | 60g |
| 700ml | 200ml | 80g |
A large cup isn’t simply “×1.4”, because the ice ratio differs. For full dosages, see the Fruit Syrup Dosage Guide.
Notes for Overseas Stores
Markets such as the US and Canada usually label cups in ounces; chains that must show calories or caffeine need to convert per-cup servings under local rules. For Taiwan’s rules, see Taiwan’s Bubble Tea Labeling Rules.
